History of the Verdigre Livestock Market
The Verdigre Livestock Market was built in 1953. It has had six owners throughout it's history. The first owner is unknown, but had ownership of the barn for the first 11 years. Don Jenson was the second owner and owned it from 1964-1974. Kenny Coops owned it from 1974-1984 and Dennis Johnson owned it from 1984-1994. Doug Johnson owned it from 1994-1996. The current owners Curt and Sherri Zimmerer began in 1996 and are still sole owners today.
Curt and Sherri Zimmerer moved to Verdigre from Creighton (about 18 miles away) where they grew up and stayed for the first 13 years of their marriage before moving to Verdigre. Curt farmed with his father and brothers. They raised hogs, cattle and crops. Sherri was a dental assistant for Dr. Polak in Creighton for a number of years. We have 3 children, Haley (22) and she goes to college and lives in Nashville TN, Hannah (20) and she is in nursing school and lives in Norfolk and Brady (19) goes to college in Norfolk for business.
It has been our great pleasure to get to know each and every one of our customers, both buyers and sellers. We know how hard it is to be a producer because we have been in your shoes so we strive to get the most buyers and the best prices for your livestock. Curt has gained a large amount of trust over the years from doing things the "honest way" and as a result it shows in the prices that our consignors get year after year.
We have tried to keep up with the technology of the world and are completely computerized and you are able to bid on cattle from the comfort of your home through your computer. Go to dvauction.com or call our office for more information. You are also able to view our facebook page to see what is happening at the Verdigre Livestock Market.
Year after year we are so thankful for our loyal customers and new customers that have been on this journey with us. Here's to another 18 years!!!
